Personal Appearance is the Most Basic of Basics

A/n: Yuri has adjusted, somehow or otherwise

Pretty soon, it had been two weeks since Yuri had come to the Scarlet Lynx. In other words, two weeks had passed since Yuri had transmigrated to this other world.

Within that time, Yuri had somehow gotten used to the Scarlet Lynx and the capital Draheln. It’s probably because he’s always been mindlessly optimistic. At the very least, Yuri is fully enjoying the life he’s always wanted of preparing meals three times a day every day, cleaning, and doing laundry without anyone making any complaints. It’s completely the lifestyle of a househusband, but the person himself is thrilled.

From time to time he’d got out to the market, and the shopkeepers are already familiar with him. He didn’t just go to the marketplace, he also went to the stores. As they are, the stores’ prices are higher but they put out many high quality goods to match the price, and it’s fun to shop there when looking for ready-made goods. He can’t say one is better than the other. Yuri properly understands that both have their good points, and he gradually increased his familiarity with both.

Furthermore, Ali also beat this world’s common sense into him. It’s Yuri, with no knowledge of the world and runs full throttle into his mistakes, so Ali lovingly beat common sense, how to deal with having Appraisal, and the like into him, teaching him all sorts of things. However, Yuri isn’t an adventurer, nor does he think about becoming one, so Ali hasn’t taught him much in the way of a self-defense technique that would be appropriate. For that, Ali said that he would teach him once they understood what he was suitable with.

Also, for the time being, Yuri registered at the Appraiser’s Association.

He didn’t intend to become an adventurer, nor did he intend to do quests, so for the time being, he got the Appraiser’s Association’s registration card as his form of identification. Normally the quickest way to go about it is to have the Adventurer’s Guild make a guild card for you, but since they take it back if you haven’t finished one quest in a set period of time, Yuri gave up on that. Or rather, Ali stopped him.

In the first place, Yuri is a Seeker who possesses the super rare skill [God’s Eye]. Both job and skills are required when registering for a guild card, and thoughtlessly publishing them would be a disaster. Also, they need to check your Status, but it’s impossible for Yuri, so it would only be a whole bunch of troubles. On that note, the Appraiser’s Association only requires you to be able to use Appraisal for a registration card. That method is the one that suits Yuri

Of course, the fact that Yuri is a Seeker is hidden. He’s only declared to be someone who has the Appraisal skill. His jobs was registered simply as Appraiser. The Appraiser’s Association doesn’t appraise without permission, and Ali was left as his guardian, so it ended with Ali giving the approval for his skill and job. Unlike the Adventurer’s Guild there is no requirement to fill in his Status, so it really suited Yuri.

And thus, Yuri enjoyed his life here. He enjoyed it too much. Or rather, there wasn’t a thing he was dissatisfied with.

“Yuri, we’re going to go training, okay?” (Yack)

“Un, take care. Have a good trip. You’ll be back by dinner, right?”

“Of course I’ll be back. ‘Cause I’m on dinner duty today.”

With Yack in the lead, the apprentice boys ran out, each with their own self-defense weapon in hand. They’re not going to fight monsters. They’re just going out to build up strength. They asked whether Yuri would like to go with them, but he wasn’t interested and didn’t think it suited him, so he refused. If someone has no interest, there will be no results.

And so, Yuri is currently doing one of his hobbies, sewing. It’s because it’s a little lonely not having a tablecloths on the dining room tables. To that end, it takes some effort to make tableclothes, so he’s going to make place mats. After buying material, he’ll sew them with different colored embroidery threads.

… Also, the sewing tools Yuri is using is the sewing kit he always keeps in his school bag.

Furthermore, those sewing tools underwent a change when he came to this world. Or rather all of Yuri’s belongings within his school bag became magic items. His school bag changed into a magic bag, and what should have been an ordinary, cheap bag had limitless capacity as well as time-stop and all sorts of those types of functions added to it, becoming a rare item. Transmigrating into another world is frightening, Yuri thought.

As for the rest, all of the tools within the bag changed in many unbelievable ways. That said, it wasn’t too dangerous. … Simply put, it won’t run out no matter how much you use it, won’t break, won’t be reduced, won’t run out, it’s just those types of cheats. For example, his ballpoint pen won’t run out of ink. As for his notebooks, they would increase the amount of blank pages by the amount he uses. Things like his scissors and needles won’t break, and could cut and stab through no matter what the item was. They’re all unbelievable in many ways, but they’re useful, so Yuri decided to just use them gratefully.

It’s just that this world doesn’t have electricity, so things like his phone and mp3 player ran out of battery and just became lumps of metal. That said, throwing them away is a waste, so he let them rest in peace within his school bag-turned-magic bag.

And so, Yuri’s hobby of sewing on and on won’t reduce the amount of thread. Although it’s limited to the thread he has, it won’t be decreased in the slightest. That said, it’s a bit drab with just those colors, so naturally he’ll purchase and use embroidery thread that’s sold here.

“It’s so convenient not to run out of thread~”

With such a carefree statement, Yuri continued to sew while humming. … Now, magic items are extremely expensive items. This base has a group of talented adventurers led by Ali-sama making the money, so there are magic tools and magic items here or there, but normally one wouldn’t own any. The magic bag he uses for shopping is an article a normal person would be envious beyond belief to see. … However, Yuri doesn’t have that sort of self awareness, so he only recognized that he should be thankful that the tools he’s used to using won’t break.

“Yuri, I’m going out after this, is there anything you want me to by?”

“Kure? Where are you going?”

“I’m going to deliver the harvestables a client requested.”

“Is that so? I don’t have anything in particular I need, na-“

“Roger -“

Seeing Kuresh off with a smile, Yuri tilted his head. “Wait a second,” he reflexively called out to stop him. Kuresh turned, mystified, and Yuri asked him a question.

“Kure, do you have time?”

“Eh? Aah, I didn’t make an appointment with the client or anything.”

“Then, your button is about to come off, so give me your jacket.”

“… Hm? Aa, it’s still okay. It’ll be fine.”

“No good.”

“Eh?”

The always warmly smiling Yuri said ‘No good’ with a somewhat serious face. His bangs made it difficult to see his eyes, but Kuresh was able to tell that the face underneath those classes was more serious than usual. And so, he obediently went to Yuri’s side and handed him the jacket.

It’s usually the front button on a jacket, but he lowest on was coming off. The thread was sticking out. It looked like just a little tug would tear it off. Yuri couldn’t overlook it. With a practiced hand, he cut the thread and undid the button, then re-attached it carefully.

“Yuri, your fingers sure are dexterous…”

“Anyone can attach a button. … There, it’s done. If you’re meeting a client, pay attention to your appearance, okay?”

“… … Appearance, huh…”

Putting on the jacket Yuri handed over, Kuresh made a bitter face like he’d bitten something sour. When Yuri tilted his head, mystified, he quickly shrugged his shoulders. They’re the same age, so Kuresh and Yuri got along comfortably. … Well, fundamentally, everyone in the Scarlet Lynx had extremely good feelings towards Yuri. It’s probably the effect of the Luck ∞ parameter. Or else it’s the effect of him feeding them.

“Kure?”

“I don’t have the money to worry about appearance, na-“

Yuri quickly tilted his head towards Kuresh. Yuri was only suggesting him to be mindful of his appearance, he wasn’t telling him to be fashionable. To Yuri, appearance isn’t the same as fashion. Worry about appearances means to look clean and hygenic, it doesn’t mean to wear costly brands.

But it looks like Kuresh understood it in the other meaning. And so, Yuri thought he should correct him about it.

“I didn’t say you should fashionable, you know? I just think that you should look as clean and proper as you can when you’re meeting a client.”

“… Hm?”

“For example, a cleanly washed shirt without a single wrinkle, or a several-days old, wrinkly shirt, which looks good?”

“… … Ah-, ah- , is that what you’re saying?”

“Yes. That’s what I’m saying. With this button as well, it’s better to have it neat and proper, than about to come off, right?”

“… Roger. That’s true -, if you think about it that way -“

He didn’t seem to be familiar with the idea, and Kuresh seriously nodded his head in agreement. Since he was already sewing, Yuri also fixed his frayed cuffs and hems. Furthermore, Yuri’s Sewing skill level was high, so his work was ridiculously fast. The person himself realized that his hands moved more quickly than when he was in Japan, but he only thought as far as to think it was nice he could work quickly. As expected of him.

After that, Kuresh headed towards his client’s location, and Yuri sewed with his normal carefree attitude.

However, there is a later story to this tale.

Following Yuri’s words, Kuresh began to pay attention to his appearance. He’s an adventure who aims to be a treasure hunter. These types aren’t ones who mind the tidiness of their bodies. However, he thought that Yuri’s words had a point, and although he didn’t spend any money, he tried to keep clean and tidy.

As a result.

He was able to receive favorable assessment from the clients, Guild staff, and all the people he would be involved with.

They are also human. They also have feelings. Of course there are people who will try to see past just the outside of a person to their contents. However, when it comes to interacting with a clean and tidy person, even if dressed simply, it’s natural to look favorably on them. With that, the conversation will go more easily. As a result, everyone’s work went more smoothly.

It didn’t matter if their rank was low. It didn’t matter if their age was young. It didn’t matter if they didn’t have money. Even children can pay attention to their appearances. They, who didn’t think something so simple could make their work go smoothly, all went to thank Yuri. Of course Kuresh, as the first one who was taught, was more enthusiastic than anyone.

However, Yuri’s reply when faced with all of this, was truly simple.

“Eh? After all, keeping your appearance well will make yourself and the people involved with you happy, right?”

Keeping your appearance tidy will put you in a good mood. Those who interact with you like that will have a favorable impression. That’s all there is to it, there’s no need for spending money; for Yuri this was normal. … For Yuri, this was the standard of a normal family from present-day Japan, but in this world there’s a lot going on, and they hadn’t realized it yet. As expected.

However, from now on, the preparation of putting their appearances in order began to spread, little by little. Together with that, the reputation of adventurers was elevated ever so slightly. Yuri, who participated in this affair, had no idea, and there was no one to tell him.

Setting your appearance in order is the most basic of basics in society is what this story was about.

A/n: Maa, appearance is the basics, right? is what this story is.

Yuri didn’t intend to say anything profound but …

It doesn’t seem like adventurers, who look like their in charge of combat, would pay much attention to their appearances…

I am awaiting your opinions and impressions.

  1. That -is- pretty basic, yes. SLoppy-looking worker doesn’t elicit as much trust as neat-looiking one for any delicate work, after all. Or to represent the client in front of others…
