The First Meeting was Saving People.

A/n: Anyway, let the social exchange begin.

What pulled Yuri back from his sea of thoughts was hearing the conspicuously loud death cries of the monsters in the background. Ah, the battle might be over. Thinking such leisurely thoughts, Yuri poked his head out and peeked in from the corridor. Within the rock room were all the members of the Scarlet Lynx he’d just seen, sheathing their weapons and lightly wiping their sweat away. With how things look, they really did end it safely, it seems.

Well then, let’s greet them. When Yuri went to take a step forward, he noticed ‘THAT’ and unconsciously screamed from the pit of his stomach.

“Everyone please move to the sides of the walls!”

At that cry, perhaps their reflexes were good despite being surprised, all of the members of the Scarlet Lynx instantly moved to stick next to the walls. The next moment, the ceiling crashed towards the center part of the room from above. There was no doubt that they’d be skewered by the ceiling, or rather the suspended ceiling, the so-called cliche trap, if they had remained at that spot.

It made a loud, reverberating sound on the ground, and then there was clacking as the chain rewound. As he watched, the suspended ceiling returned like nothing had happened, and went back to being a normal rock ceiling. … Traps in dungeons are brutal. If Yuri hadn’t called out, all of the members of the Scarlet Lynx would probably be crushed under the suspended ceiling right now.

“… So, we were saved … Who are you, kid?”

“… U-m, I’m lost. Nice to meet you.”

The one who questioned him as their representative was the bald man. Bald + wearing an eyepatch on his right eye made him extremely grim looking. Bluntly speaking, he looks fierce. But on closer look, his face and gaze were intellectual, giving a calming atmosphere. The color of his irises seemed to change into seven colors depending on the light; they were mysterious eyes.

Only the bald man looked at Yuri, who had called himself lost, with suspicious eyes. The other four people approached while all giving their thanks to Yuri. Petting his head and shaking his hand with all their might, he was heartily welcomed. … Well, they experienced near death, so Yuri was probably their life’s savior to them.

Of course Yuri realized the suspended ceiling trap due to the Skill [God’s Eye]. It seems to be the type of brutal trap that activates when the monsters are defeated. As if in concert with the destruction of the monsters, the part of the suspended ceiling that was going to fall blinked in a hazard-denoting red light. Once he realized the danger, Yuri immediately fled towards the wall, fleeing the trap’s range, and yelled at the others.

Even now he didn’t understand how much of a cheat his Skill is, but THIS was probably a cheat. Obviously so. He couldn’t imagine that normal Appraisal would understand the trap so perfectly to this extent. No, it might be able to, but the Appraisal-san that Yuri knew wasn’t this spectacular. His Skill really was too much of a cheat, Yuri thought.

“My name is Ali. I’m the leader of the clan, Scarlet Lynx. You saved us just now. So, what’s your name? What do you mean by lost?”

“My name is Yuri. Actually, I was in a room further in before I realized it…”

“… Were you thrown here by some teleportation trap?”

“… Maybe.”

He was actually teleported from another world, but Yuri remained silent on that. He didn’t know how much he should tell them. The cliché with other world transfers is that the first people you meet would be good people, but even so, he thought it would be better to be careful. He wasn’t at the bottom of the school caste and living a loner lifestyle for so long for nothing. He’ll be cautious for now.

Ali stared at Yuri. He might be trying to see through his claims. Right then, Yuri picked up a prickling sensation. It was similar to static electricity, but something about it was a little unpleasant. Furrowing his brows, he shook his head lightly as if to shake it off.

At that moment, Ali widened his eye as if surprised, seized the nape of Yuri’s neck, and moved to a place where the others weren’t around.

Oh~, as expected of another world’s people ~. They’re strong ~. Yuri, thinking such carefree thoughts, was puzzled by the serious face of Ali in front of him. He didn’t know what was bothering this bald man at all. … No, it’s definitely this Yuri, a suspicious lost child with an unknown background.

“… You, who are you?”

“… Just a lost person?”

“… What’s your Job?”

“… Appraiser.”

“Liar!”

His head was hit with a whack, and Yuri crouched down with a groan of pain. He was hit with full strength. It was a relief he was hit with an open palm, but how would it have turned out if it was a fist? Glancing at his own Status, Yuri wanted to cry. Because with just that one attack, his HP was halved. It’s a terrible story.

Frankly, his Parameters were the worst. Well he’s level 1 so it can’t be helped. Also, his school uniform seems to have been granted God’s Blessing, and was even at level ∞, but it doesn’t seem to have raised his defenses up that much. Because that hurt like it normally would.

Yuri looked at Ali with teary eyes. With Yuri looking up at him like a small animal with watery eyes, the bald man made a bit of a guilty face. He apologized for now, but didn’t stop his questioning.

“… Kid, can you ‘see’ my Status?”

“… Yes?”

While tilting his head, Yuri concentrated his consciousness on Ali. As expected, the Status screen appeared. As always the humming sound accompanied the sight of the Status. While leisurely thinking that just that makes this feel like an MMO, he properly took a look and nodded.

… Furthermore, Yuri was just acting cautious for now, and wanted to convey his original carefree and optimistic nature.

The moment Yuri nodded, Ali looked at the sky. To describe it, it had an ‘Oh my God,’ feeling. To give it a Japanese saying, ‘Nantekottai,’(wtf) would be the closest. Not understanding why, Yuri pondered deeply, but Ali felt even more exhausted at the sight of Yuri like that.

“… … If you can ‘see’ my Status, then there’s no way you’re an Appraiser. Because with the Appraisal type Skills, you can’t see the Status of higher ranking people.”

“… Uwaa.”

The words muttered into his ear, probably out of consideration so that his companions in the background wouldn’t be able to hear, made Yuri feel like, ‘Now I’ve done it.’ He intended to be cautious, but stepped on the mine himself. From the statement just now, Ali either had a rare Appraisal type Skill or his Skill level was high, which was it? Yuri, who had just informed him that he was an extraordinary existence that could casually see Ali’s Status, slumped his shoulders, dejected.

He felt like he could hear the peace and tranquility he wanted walking away into the distance.

“… Anyway, I’ll confirm the details later. You’re leaving the dungeon with us.”

“… Huh?”

“Being lost or whatever, you saved our lives, so I’m reluctant to leave a noncombatant looking person like you behind. … … Also, leaving you as is without confirming the details feels like it could be trouble.”

“Oka~y. I’ll be in your care~”

At Yuri’s playful salute in reply, Ali heaved his greatest sigh. He looks scary due to the bald head and eyepatch getup, but his contents are normally caring and sensitive. Rather than being sensitive, it’s probably more that he’s someone with common sense. Anyway, it seems like he’ll be able to get information one way or another, so Yuri felt relieved.

Honestly, if they treated him like a monstrous freak and left him here, he wouldn’t know what to do. At any rate, he can’t fight monsters, nor did he have any food, so he had one of two options, being killed by monsters or starving to death. Although he wouldn’t get caught in a trap.

This and that happened, and Yuri ended up leaving the dungeon together with Ali’s companions. As for how he got lost in such a place, there are teleportation traps that transfer between dungeons, so wasn’t because of that? they said. That wasn’t it at all, but he said it was possible and left it vague. They also asked where he was from, and he tried properly responding Japan, but they had faces like, “Ja Pan?” so he replied that it was a small, far away country. It wasn’t necessarily wrong.

“But hey, Yuri’s outfit’s pretty different, ne.”

Smiling happily while talking to him is the brawler girl, Rerei.

She’s a girl with short red hair and yellow eyes. Her pupils were like a cat’s pupils, narrowing into slits from time to time, and when he puzzled over it, she told him she was part beastman. It seems her father is a cat beastman. … He would know right away if he looked at her Status, but Yuri thought that would be a violation of privacy, and Ali also said that it was rude so he shouldn’t look as he pleases. Then what about Ali who tried to see Yuri’s? he asked, but when he was told that it was to identify a suspicious person, he couldn’t refute it.

… And it seems that normally people wouldn’t realize Ali’s appraisal. In other words, Ali’s just that high ranked. Remembering the Skill he had just glanced at, Yuri thought it seemed pretty strong somehow. Furthermore, that Ali’s Job was Authenticator. Just from the literal name, it probably has the meaning of judging truth, Yuri thought.

“Is it strange? Pretty much all of the students in my home town dress like this, though.”

“Student? Yuri, are you rich?”

“No. In my home town, children are basically students. After studying, they set out to work.”

The swordsman Brooke questioned him in surprise.

With green hair and black eyes, Brooke possessed the air of a cool, handsome man. Was it the feel of a western samurai? But not necessarily a knight. The feel is somehow samurai like. But his outfit and appearance are western, so it felt like a knight in appearance blended together with a samurai within.

“Fuhee~. I thought only rich people can go to school.”

“Well, changing the location will change the products, so they say.”

“… What’s that mean?”

“It’s a saying that means characteristics and significance will differ depending on the place.”
<t/n: different places have different cultures, and even the same thing can have a different meaning depending on location>

“Yuri’s smart. As expected, just going to school makes a difference!”

The one praising him going, Amazing, amazing! is the thief Kuresh. Nickname Kure.

He seems to be the youngest in the group, and when asked his age wasn’t too different from Yuri. Because of that, Kuresh felt an affinity towards Yuri and was very curious about him. Towards Kuresh, who asked all sorts of questions with his orange eyes wide open and round, Yuri smiled happily as he replied.

… As it is, Kuresh’s communication ability is high.

“At any rate, you were unlucky. Being separated far from your homeland.”

“… That’s true… But meeting such nice people like all of you makes me lucky.”

“Fufufu. That goes for us too. Thanks to Yuri, we were able to continue without dying, after all.”

“I’m glad I could be of use.”

The one petting Yuri’s head with a smile is the female archer, Frau.

With her dignified air, she was a woman you couldn’t call anything but dignified. Frankly, she had the air that made you want to call her Anego. Dark blue hair tightly tied in a ponytail, and her light brown eyes were sharp for a woman. However they didn’t give the impression of sly fox eyes at all. However however, they were dignified. … Within his heart, Yuri thought, “If she wore a kimono, she would definitely become a Nee-san in a yakuza movie,” but no one would understand even if he said it, so he stayed silent.

And so Yuri was accepted quite favorably by them as they walked through the dungeon. Along the way, the Scarlet Lynx dealt with the monsters that appeared. From time to time, Yuri would speak up regarding traps they hadn’t noticed. That’s how it went.

Thus, Yuri had somehow gotten companions in another world.

A/n: He safely got companions.
Luck ∞ in his Parameters has been working one way or another.
I await your opinions and impressions.

  1. Makes me kinda worried about Yuri’s suppsoed smarts if he’s 17 and hasn’t seen the infinity symbol before… What did he do on math classes? :D

    1. I see this a lot in novels and also wonder about it., but I think based on what Yuri is saying, he’s talking about how he can’t conceptualize what a stat value of infinity means.
Like, if it’s MAX, at least he knows it means it’s more powerful than anyone else with the same stat. But infinity isn’t quantifiable, so how does that factor in actual, real world situations?
You can’t use a stat of infinity in a game to calculate how the player will do against an opponent, you have to use actual numbers instead of a theoretical concept.

… At least, that’s what I BELIEVE he, and most other Japanese isekai-d MCs are confused about.
Of course, WE all know that what it means is “You are Broken, dude,” but they don’t seem to get the memo.
